Story

This coffee has been produced by women and sourced through Café Femenino®, an ethical program committed to ending the cycle of poverty affecting women coffee farmers in Colombia. By providing direct compensation, opportunity, and resources to enact positive change, coffees like this bring visibility to their hard work and offer notoriety to the premium coffees they grow.

Since 2004, the program has had far-reaching effects; women now earn a higher premium and have control over the additional revenue to fund training on gender equality, leadership, health, and food security. As specialty coffee roasters, we acknowledge the significance of supporting women within the industry. We intentionally partnered with Café Femenino® by sourcing this unique coffee and sharing its story. With your purchase, you choose to join us on this mission.

THIS COFFEE STANDS FOR WOMEN

Bold Flavor, Empowering Impact: Introducing our Women in Coffee Program

Farmed by women

Produced and farmed by women, we sourced this coffee through Café Femenino, an ethical program committed to ending the cycle of poverty affecting women farmers. By providing direct compensation, opportunity, and resources, coffees like this bring visibility to their hard work and notoriety to their economic impact in their communities.

TRACEABILITY MATTERS

This coffee originates from the COSURCA Cooperative situated in Colombia. With a membership exceeding 400 farmers, each owning farms averaging 2,000 acres in size, this cooperative thrives on cultivating varietals like Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo. By combining their harvests, they not only enhance their yield but also secure premium prices for their high-quality coffees.

DESIGNED WITH PURPOSE

When we determined we would be creating a Women In Coffee product line, we wanted to elevate the coffee further by seeking out a female artist to create unique packaging that would bring the story to life. Andrea Sánchez Zuluaga is a Colombian designer and illustrator who draws inspiration from feminism and the relationship between humans and nature.

Colombia Café Femenino

I think my identity as a Latin-American woman is just embedded into everything I do and it's impossible for me not to incorporate that into my work. It was very important to display different types of people, faces, bodies and expressions. And that stood with me: I love to create characters that are inspired by people in my streets so you can definitely recognize they do not have any stereotypical beauty.

a family legacy

"My mother's family is from a traditional coffee territory here in Colombia: Caldas. I grew up visiting my grandparents in a small town, surrounded by coffee mountains, streets filled with coffee beans in fiber sacks, farmers selling their produce on Sundays, and watching the coffee beans drying on the roofs of my family's farm."
